Our Game Plan for You
Team Members
Young men will join Kingdom Athletes by invitation.
Practice Facilities
We have excellent practice facilities. Our practice facility are selected to provide maximum convenience to family members and also to enhance Coach Wilkerson's development of the players' basketball talents.
Practice
Practice takes place at least two (2) times per week. Practice is modeled on successful high school and college programs. Practices will be both complex and require intense effort and self discipline from all of the players at all times. Fundamentals are mastered as well as offensive and defensive team strategies. Coach Wilkerson will also lead the players through after-practice devotionals.
Uniform, Shoes, and Equipment
Our goal is to provide each player, at no cost, with excellent uniforms, warm-ups, basketball shoes, and team bags.
Academics
Kingdom Athletes will emphasize academic achievement and, where needed, help to provide families and players with academic assistance. Kingdom Athletes has engaged Dawn White to serve as Kingdom Athletes' Academic Advisor. Ms. White is a graduate with honors from UNCG and has received a masters degree from East Carolina University. She has taught in Guilford County Schools, at High Point Christian Academy, and currently at Guilford Technical Community College. Ms. White is a highly accomplished tutor and teacher and will provide our players, if needed, with excellent academic guidance. As our players reach the high school years, academic guidance will be expanded to include test preparation for the SAT, ACT, and PSAT.
Colleges and Scholarships
As our players move through the high school years, Kingdom Athletes will provide guidance and support for college admissions and the attainment of college scholarships. Coach Wilkerson and one of our parents, Bill Wilson, both have existing relationships with a number of college basketball coaches at the Division I, II, III, and NAIA levels. Kingdom Athletes will seek and plan opportunities to showcase our athletes' talents and gain solid attention from college coaches and recruiters.
Service Projects
Our athletes will learn that God loves a cheerful giver and, thus, they will be expected to give back to their community through service projects: work at the Open Door Shelter, Christmas "Angel Trees", and Operation Good Samaritan are just a few examples. Service is a part of life for a Kingdom Athlete.
NBA "Friends" and Speakers
Kingdom Athletes will ask Coach Wilkerson's basketball friends and allies to meet with our players from time to time to talk about life as a college student-athlete and as a professional player as well. For example, Coach Wilkerson will invite Kelenna Azubuike of the Golden State Warriors, a friend of Coach Wilkerson's, to be an advisor and benefactor to Kingdom Athletes. We will also invite, from time to time, current and former Christian basketball players such as Robert Horry, Bobby Jones, A.C. Green, and David Thompson.
Sponsors
Kingdom Athletes will secure sponsorships from corporate partners and individual benefactors to provide our team with financial support so as to significantly reduce each family's cost of participation. This will include sponsors in the area of sporting goods and athletic apparel such as Nike, Reebok, Adidas, and Converse. However, and perhaps more importantly, Kingdom Athletes will seek sponsorships from our local business community in the areas of banking, insurance, and health care. Local sponsors can be very helpful in assisting our players in finding summer jobs and internships.
Strength and Conditioning
Kingdom Athletes will engage the consultative services of a strength and conditioning coach, namely, Sam Johnson. Mr. Johnson played college basketball at UNC Wilmington and will serve this year as a strength and conditioning coach at High Point Christian Academy. He also serves as a fitness trainer at Sportscenter of the Triad.
Health and Nutrition
We have engaged the services of a health and nutritional consultant who will serve our team as needed in this capacity.
Conclusion
We are very excited about the future of Kingdom Athletes and look forward to meeting with parents and players that share this unique vision.
